“fasting, abstinence from food or drink or both for health, ritualistic, religious, or ethical purposes.”
Prolonged fasting
This is the most intense form of fasting and can last from 4 days up to several weeks. Prolonged fasting is a very powerful tool with numerous health benefits including cell repair, reducing chronic inflammation, and improving metabolic and immune function. This can also be beneficial for patients suffering from chronic diseases.
Intermittent fasting
This is the most popular and accessible form of fasting. It involves cycling between periods of eating and fasting. We have several different methods such as Alternate day fasting or time-restricted eating. Intermittent fasting can help improve energy, support weight balance, regulate blood sugar, and reduce cravings. It suits most people and can be easily integrated into daily life.
Fasting-mimicking diet
This is a gentler approach that mimics the effects of fasting while still allowing small amounts of food, usually over 5 days. This can trigger many of the same benefits as prolonged fasting, such as autophagy, inflammation reduction, and improved metabolic markers, without requiring full food restriction. It’s a good option for those who want fasting benefits but prefer a guided, food-based method.
